If you want a change from the heat, sand dunes, and
beaches, Ubajara National Park is a good alternative.
Situated on a high plateau, the climate cools to around 20º
Celsius at night, but is a pleasant 26º during the day.
This mountainous region has waterfalls, hiking trails,
and caves. A view of the lowlands while riding the sky
tram to the entrance of the cave is beautiful. Waterfalls
trailing down through the dense, lush forest on one side of
your view, and on the other is the dryer lowland of the
sertão.
Discovery of the cave has been dated back to the early
1600's and was first inhabited by the Tabajara Indians. It
was also the end point of pilgrimages made by Jesuits.
There is easy to moderate hiking on well-maintained,
marked trails that provide you with information about
specific trees and plants as you encounter them.
It is
possible to see birds, reptiles and perhaps even monkeys.
Waterfalls can be found in many different areas of Ubajara
Park, some being suitable for refreshing, and others to
marvel at their beauty.
