Natal is the capital city of the state of Rio Grande do
Norte. Many of the hotels within the city are situated on, or
close to the beach in Ponta Negra, which is perfect for
strolling, and provides the best swimming beaches in the
city.
Natal is home to the largest cashew tree in the world
and the magnificent fortress, Reis Magos (Three Kings
Fort), which is strategically situated at the entrance of the
port on the Potigui River Mouth. Dunas Park, the second
largest urban park in Brazil, next in size to Tijuca Park in
Rio de Janeiro, makes it possible to hike in the lush
Atlantic Rainforest.
There are many historical points in and surrounding
Natal. Both north and south of Natal, you will find white
sand beaches lined with coconut palms and blue-green
crystal clear waters. Dune riding is highly recommended
and there is even the possibility of riding on a camel!
90km further south is the beautiful Praia da Pipa.
A view of dolphins swimming in the bay from the cliffs
is a spectacular sight! There are scenic trails to explore on
foot in the forest of the Pipa Ecological Sanctuary, and
boat rides on one of the surrounding, placid lagoons.
The
village of Pipa is an excellent place for those who like
nightlife. There are boutiques, restaurants, bars and
music, continuing into the early hours of the morning.
